It all started when I became a single mom and had to go to work full time. I had a little 5 year old girl who I could not bear to send her to day care in a town that I basically didn't know anyone except the nice old lady who lived down the street. That sweet lady was very excited to watch my daughter for me. Little did I know one of their favorite afternoon activities was to go dumpster diving. She would put my daughter into the dumpster and give her instructions what to pick up and hand to her. My daughter loved it and pretty soon we were going to thrift stores to find cool old things. A few years went by and we realized we had actually started collecting valuable items worth more than we had paid.
When that same little girl was 19 years old she bought Montanan Rose from a good friend of ours, another very sweet lady. It was located in the 2 story yellow Victorian house next to what was then IGA in Hamilton. We didn't own the property and renting was not working out to well so after 9 years of Montana Rose we sadly closed the door. We went on with our lives but she never let her dream of reopening die. She kept her business legally registered and held onto all of her business cards, bags, tags, tissue paper.....everything. Plus her favorite inventory items.
Twelve years later I had opportunity to purchase a 2 story white Victorian house close to the Museum and in the heart of Historical Hamilton. I ask my daughter (who I will not divulge her age this time) if she would like to open Montana Rose again. She was as thrilled and so was I!
Besides the antique and gift shop I am working on a Small wedding venue, on Saturday afternoons only In our lovely rose garden back yard.
A special feature in the summer is the Farmers Market. Every sarturday from 9:00 to noon.
